Jack in the Box® Rolls Out New Social Sport – Jack’s GutterBowl – Where Worst is First!

SAN DIEGOMarch 9, 2009 – Jack in the Box® restaurants, one of the nation’s largest hamburger chains, today announced the launch of Jack’s GutterBowl™, a new social sport and exciting alternative to traditional bowling. Debuting in four U.S. cities, Jack’s GutterBowl rewards bowlers who finish with the lowest scores. Teaming with the Active Marketing Group, a digital media and marketing services firm known for its access and insight to active lifestyle consumers, Jack in the Box created the new sports league to bring active-minded people together through a fun social event that caters to all abilities.

In Jack’s GutterBowl, the goal is to knock down the least number of pins in a traditional bumper bowling lane. At the end of ten frames, the team with the lowest score wins. GutterBowl leagues consist of six teams with six players per team. Teams will be outfitted in authentic Jack’s GutterBowl shirts and league champions will receive free burgers for a year from Jack in the Box. Players will also be treated to additional rewards such as complimentary t-shirts, VIP discount cards and free-food coupons for participating.

“Jack’s GutterBowl is an innovative and fun way for our consumers to participate in a sport that our iconic namesake, Jack, would play,” said Christine Willis, director of regional marketing for Jack in the Box Inc. “This new social sport is for people who are active and enjoy something that’s a little different and unconventional.”

To kick off the inaugural season of Jack’s GutterBowl, Jack in the Box is teaming up with sport and social clubs in San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas. Vavi Sport and Social Club, Planet Social Sports, Sports Monkey, and Dallas Sport and Social Club will be organizing leagues in their cities.
