Parks and Recreation Organizations in Florida Select Online Technology from ACTIVE Network ® to Manage Facilities and Operations

Active Network’s Parks and Recreation Software Enables the Cities of Ocala, Apopka and Marion County, FL to Go Online For the First Time

SAN DIEGO, CA – October 12, 2010 – Today the cities of Ocala and Apopka, FL, as well as Marion County, FL, have selected, The Active Network, Inc. (Active Network), a technology and media company, to manage and automate daily operations for its parks and recreation organizations. Active Network’s Web-based parks and recreation softwareparks and recreation software, available through its Communities division, provides each organization the ability to eliminate inefficient manual processes, centralize data for enhanced reporting and for the first time offer online registration for community activities.

Through a joint venture to purchase parks and recreation management software, Marion County and the City of Ocala, located in Marion County, selected Active Network’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution to provide the community online access to view, search, sign-up and pay for recreational programs and activities for the first time. Marion County will use the software solution to automate business operations for the department’s more than 46 recreation facilities, 11 boat ramps, and over 2,000 acres of park land and pubic space. Active Network’s online recreation registration software solution also allows both organizations to consolidate all registration data history into a single system, enabling them to customize reports, access real-time activity information and scheduling, utilize ecommerce capabilities and offer point of sale purchasing. The City of Ocala’s online visitors will now have better registration access to the more than 150 annual programs, and benefit from improved league scheduling, facility and park booking capabilities, and secure payment options.

“Both Marion County and the City of Ocala were in search of a software system that could meet the operational needs of each organization while providing the community the online access that it requested,” explained Gina Peebles, director of Marion County Parks and Recreation. “Both organizations agreed to select Active Network’s online recreation software because of its proven track record helping similar organizations improve daily operations and provide citizens better online accessibility to new services and payment options.”

The City of Apopka’s parks and recreation department has over 180 acres of park land and public space filled with recreation centers, sports fields, baseball and softball parks, basketball and volleyball courts, community pavilions and much more. Using Active Network’s software, the City of Apopka will offer its community online access to register for programs and activities, annual memberships, facilities, parks and events. The City of Apopka benefits from all the functionality of a consolidated online system including a reduction in operating costs.
