Camp Registration Up Six Percent from 2009 to 2010
SAN DIEGO, CA – June 16, 2010 – The Active Network, Inc. (Active), a technology and media company, today announced that online registrations it processed for youth camps across the United States increased six percent over the previous year. These findings are the result of online registrations processed in 2009 and 2010 from January through May through Active Network’s ACTIVE Camps division, the leading provider of online registration and camp management software serving more than 1,600 youth camps across the country.
In addition to an increase in the online registrations it processed for youth camps over the previous year, Active Network’s key findings from the transactions it reviewed included the following:
- Over 54 percent of camps in 2010 experienced growth in online registration over 2009.
- Although the cost to attend camp in 2009 saw a decrease due to one-time discounts during the recession, the average cost to attend camp for one week in 2010 is identical to 2008.
- Small- and large-sized youth camps experienced similar growth on average.
- May continues to be the most popular month to register online for youth camps accounting for approximately 16 percent of annual online registrations.
“Last year camps of all sizes and price ranges felt the effects of parents sending campers to fewer weeks of camp or making the tough decision to withhold their child from camp entirely,” explained Stephen Branstetter, general manager for Active Network’s ACTIVE Camps division. “It’s a testament to the importance and value of the camp experience that we’re seeing such an immediate bounce back in camp sign-ups.”
Branstetter also noted that more camps were utilizing social media tools and email marketing campaigns to target parents and campers throughout the year. Additionally, sales of Active Network’s ecamps service were up by 20 percent over the previous year. Ecamps allows families to stay connected throughout the camp experience by giving parents access to a secure site where they can view and download camp photos and videos as well as exchange emails and scanned notes with their children.
