Active.com® and Best Buy® Join Forces to Get Chicago Residents Fit

Customized Couch-to-5K Training Plans Make it Easy for Beginners to Get in Shape and Train for Upcoming Races

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – September 8, 2011 Active.com®, a media property of Active Network (NYSE: ACTV), and the leading online community that connects people with the sports and activities they love to do, announced today that the Company has teamed up with Chicago-area Best Buy stores to encourage Windy City residents to become more active and practice a healthier lifestyle. To that end, Chicago-area Best Buy stores are providing 3,000 free Active.com Couch-to-5K® Trainer plans with the purchase of any item from their health and fitness product line, which ranges from pedometers and heart rate monitors to treadmills and stationary bikes.

“Best Buy is committed to getting our customers and our employees off the couch and active in their local communities,” said Scott Rathai, district manager of Best Buy. “The combination of Active.com resources, along with the array of health and fitness products we offer, is helping us make this pledge a reality. With these resources at hand, we hope to see at least 3,000 new runners hit the pavement this year.”

The co-branded Active.com Couch-to-5K Trainer program is designed to demystify exercise and make it easier to start an exercise regimen. The online plan delivers a day-by-day fitness program that helps people stay motivated, connect with others and chart their progress toward running a full 5K. In addition to the training plans, Active Network has kicked off an integrated marketing campaign to further motivate participants, including hand-selected fitness brand ambassadors, in-store merchandising and sales training, and online marketing.

“Our program with Best Buy demonstrates the breadth of media and marketing resources we offer brands who want to connect with active people and help motivate them on their fitness journey,” said Jon Belmonte, chief media officer at Active Network. “Taking the first step in an exercise program can be hard; efforts that encourage people to maintain a healthier lifestyle, like training plans and fitness ambassadors, will help them be more successful.”

Chicago residents can still register on Active.com for the Best Buy-sponsored Fort 2 Base 5K race this Sunday, September 11, and can use the training plans to get ready for upcoming Chicago-area races this fall including the Halloween Hustle 5K, Chicago Tragic Events 5K or a 5K Running Tour of Grant Park.
