Active Network Selected by the National Archives and Records Administration to Support Freedom of Information Act Dispute Resolution

Citizen Access Suite™ technology is expected to automate manual processes, increase efficiency and improve customer service

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – December 5, 2011 – The Active Network, Inc. (NYSE: ACTV), the leading provider of organization-based cloud computing applications, announced today that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) launched an integrated software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution from Active Network aimed at increasing efficiency and improving customer service of the U.S. Government’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Ombudsman’s office, the Office of Government Information Services (OGIS).

NARA is the record keeper of important historical US documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Congress created OGIS within NARA to offer mediation services to resolve FOIA disputes, to review the agencies’ FOIA policies, procedures and compliance, and to recommend policy changes to the Congress and President to improve the administration of FOIA.

“With a comprehensive case management tool for records and integrated platform for communications, we expect a more streamlined, efficient and secure process to track, monitor and resolve FOIA dispute cases between the public and federal agencies,” said OGIS director Miriam Nisbet.

Powered by the Citizen Access Suite™ technology from Active Network, OGIS launched a new self-service web site on November 28, 2011 that allows anyone to submit to OGIS requests for assistance in resolving FOIA disputes. Government agencies may also use the Citizen Access Suite technology to submit cases directly to OGIS and improve interagency communications about FOIA.

“Active Network provides secure, enterprise-class SaaS solutions to all levels of government agencies, helping them to provide better information access and engage more effectively with their constituents,” said Greg Whitnell, vice president of State & Federal customers at Active Network. “Working with NARA, we hope to accelerate the time it takes to report and resolve FOIA disputes while fostering improved communications with FOIA requesters and other agencies.”
