Active Network Joins Forces with City of San Diego to Automate its Parks and Recreation Facilities and Help Families Find and Register for Local Activities

ActiveNet Technology Replaces Pen & Paper Transactions with Proprietary Online Recreation Management System to Help Drive Greater Efficiency

SAN DIEGO, CA – March 20, 2012 – The Active Network, Inc. (NYSE: ACTV) has partnered with the City of San Diego, to make it easier for San Diegans to get active in their community. Employing Active Network’s ActiveNet™ recreation management software, the City of San Diego is moving forward with automating the management of its parks and recreation assets to handle everything from facility reservations, park permitting, payment processing and e-commerce operations. Previously, the City of San Diego was dependent on a completely paper-based system. This year, it began a phased implementation of ActiveNet software, starting with two of its most robust parks and recreation service areas in Carmel Valley and Tierrasanta, and has plans to onboard all of its 50+ sites in a phased and measured approach.

“We’re pleased with how well the ActiveNet implementation is progressing and how positively it’s been received,” said Scott Reese, Assistant Park and Recreation Director, with the City of San Diego. “The fact that residents can now search and register for programs online makes it even easier for them to get involved in their communities and enjoy the enriching programs and quality parks the City of San Diego has to offer.”

The City of San Diego offers a mix of programming which is managed internally and by third-party recreation councils, non-profit and for-profit entities who rent its space for their events. The ability to have a single, enterprise-class, software as a service (SaaS) platform that all parties can use to manage their respective scheduling, registrations and payment processing needs provides tremendous value to the City of San Diego in terms of automating financial reporting and reconciliation, reducing costs, growing revenues and improving customer service levels. The City of San Diego is also considering using ActiveNet to help increase utilization of its facilities through organized crowd-sourcing—allowing residents to use social networking software and mobile applications, in coordination with ActiveNet, to schedule their own pick-up games and activities, in addition to taking advantage of regularly scheduled programs.

“With our corporate headquarters based in San Diego, we are very pleased to help the City of San Diego efficiently manage its facilities and foster stronger community involvement with local residents, including our own employees and their families,” said Ram Krishnan, SVP and senior general manager, Communities at Active Network. “ActiveNet provides local governments like San Diego the opportunity to automate and modernize their systems so that more people can take advantage of them.”

The City of San Diego is one of the largest cities in the nation and has a robust selection of facilities and programs which are centrally managed, including 40,000 acres of land; 340 parks including Balboa Park, Mission Trails Regional Park, and Mission Bay Park; 25 miles of shoreline from Sunset Cliffs to La Jolla; 13 pools, 3 public golf complexes and 52 recreation centers.
