SAN DIEGO, Calif.— July 24, 2014 – ACTIVE Network®, the leader in cloud-based Activity and Participant Management™ solutions, today released an infographic illustrating gender trends in running. In partnership with Running USA and their national Runner’s Survey, Active Network ® polled 1200+ members of the ACTIVE.com1 endurance community. The members polled make up the ACTIVE Lifestyle Panel, which represents a segment of endurance athletes who participate in a variety of events such as triathlons, marathons, and other traditional running distances, as well as Mob events.
Among the key findings shared in the infographic:
- Women make up 60% of participants in running events
- 74% of men vs. 57% of women classify themselves as competitive runners
- 54% of women vs. 38% of men classify themselves as running for fun
- Women are more likely to use social media to:
- Post-race photos on social media (62% vs 46% for men)
- Learn about events (22% vs 16% for men)
- Use smartphones for running activities (31% vs 25% for men)
