Celebrating its 20th year, the SCHKM has grown from 1,073 participants in 1997 to over 74,000 in 2016, and is now a rush sell-out event. With participants registering for the marathon at a different time than people registering for the half marathon and other related events on race day, registration management becomes even more complicated. As one of the most popular events in the Asia-Pacific region, SCHKM holds three fast-paced, first-come, first-served “rush” sales periods to register more than 70,000 participants. The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon has become a signature international sporting event, recognized as a Gold Label Road Race by the International Association of Athletics Federation, and was recognized as a “Brand Hong Kong Event” by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
