Active.com and National Recreation and Park Association Team Up to Deliver Premier Web Resource to America's Parks

La Jolla, Calif. - May 8, 2000 - Accessing services and facility information for parks and recreation centers across the nation will soon be as close as your computer keyboard through a new partnership between Active.com (www.active.com) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Active.com - the industry's largest, most comprehensive provider of web-based resources and services for recreational sports and leagues - has recently joined NRPA to launch ActiveParks.org (www.activeparks.org), a premier web resource for both parks and recreation professionals and the communities they serve.

"For the first time, parks and recreation facilities across the country can share in a powerful online resource that not only unifies the industry through technology, but helps educate, inform and engage the public in active lifestyles," said Emily Reichman, vice president of Active.com, and product manager for ActiveParks.org.

The first phase of the project, the development of the site's ActiveSearch database, will provide park and recreation professionals nationwide an extensive resource and information exchange through the creation of an online inventory of NRPA member parks. When completed, ActiveSearch will feature a rich selection of information, facilities and services from NRPA's 5,100 city, county, and state parks departments. The database, which will drive the development of the community portion of the ActiveParks.org site, will increase exposure and visibility for parks and recreation while providing the public easy, online access to the latest services and activities. The public will also be able to register online for park activities, making participation easier and more accessible.

"Active.com brings the industry knowledge, top-level technology and proven Internet experience necessary to successfully launch and support the ActiveParks project," said Dean Tice, executive director, NRPA. "We're happy to partner with an industry leader that shares our commitment to advancing the potential of parks and recreation."
