Active Lifestyle Vehicle Winners Now Featured at ActiveTestDrive.com
LA JOLLA, CA. - February 9, 2005 - Elite athletes and automotive journalists from across the nation teamed up to test drive vehicles for the first annual ALV (Active Lifestyle Vehicle) of the Year competition, co-sponsored by Active.com and National Sports Network. The 2005 ALV winners are now featured at www.activetestdrive.com, a new Web site showcasing the most conducive vehicles for an active lifestyle, ranging from sport coupes to full-size sport-utility vehicles.
Out of nearly 50 vehicles submitted by automobile manufacturers for this year's ALV competition, the 2005 Nissan Xterra and the 2005 Land Rover LR3 earned top honors for the best value and luxury categories respectively. All vehicles were judged based on fuel economy, off-road performance, environmental friendliness and safety, with additional emphasis on bicycle transport, towing capability, cargo space efficiency and accessory first aid kits. Some of the 2005 ALV finalists even featured large cup holders for water bottles, seats designed for an athletic build and compartments to hold wet gear, making these the most ideal vehicles on the market for active sports enthusiasts.
"The Active Lifestyle Vehicles program provides a great tool for active consumers looking to purchase a vehicle that caters to all of their sporting needs, from bike transport to towing capability," explained Jim Woodman, senior vice president of business development and content publishing for The Active Network, parent company of Active.com. "Our goal is to bridge the gap between car manufacturers and active lifestyle consumers, eventually giving consumers a voice in designing the ultimate ALV."
