LA JOLLA, Calif. – November 13, 2000 – This month, runners everywhere will be able to celebrate the holiday and justify the mega calories they will consume on Thanksgiving Day by running in a Turkey Trot.
Active.com has joined up with event directors nationwide to provide online registration for more than 110 Turkey Trots across 33 states. These events range from 5K runs to tennis and soccer tournaments and most of them are in the name of a good cause.

Tom the Turkey is one bird that is excited about the Turkey Trot road races this November. “I usually despise Thanksgiving," said the 11-lb bird. “But this Thanksgiving you can count on seeing me in my sneakers running in a local Turkey Trot." Tom said anything to keep him off the platters and away from Fred the Farmer this Thanksgiving is good enough reason for him to run.
