Active.com Named Exclusive Online Registraton Provider For Ironman North America

La Jolla, Calif. – August 23, 2000 – Active.com, the leading online registration company for participatory sports, today was named exclusive online registration provider for Ironman North America (IMNA). Through its partnership with IMNA – one of the premier triathlon promotions companies in the world – Active.com (www.active.com) will provide online registration and database services for four major IMNA events through 2001, further strengthening Active.com’s position in the triathlon community.

Active.com will web-enable IMNA events such as Subaru Ironman Canada, one of the world’s most successful Ironman events, as well as Isuzu Ironman USA Lake Placid, Isuzu Ironman California and Isuzu Ironman Florida – the only Ironman races in the continental USA.

“Active.com’s technology and customer support is unsurpassed in the industry," said Graham Fraser, president, Ironman North America. “Through our partnership with Active.com, we’re able to streamline our registration process and manage participant data more efficiently. With increased convenience and instant registration confirmation, we’re delivering triathletes worldwide the true benefits of online technology."

Active.com provided online registration for May’s Isuzu Ironman California and most recently, Isuzu Ironman USA Lake Placid, which already has attracted more than 1,200 online registrants. Each Ironman triathlon event attracts 1,900 of the fittest athletes in the world. The Ironman triathlon is one of the most rugged athletic endurance events in the world. The event features a 2.4-mile (3.9km) swim, followed by a 112-mile (180.2km) bike and a 26.2-mile (42.2km) run, all of which must be completed in less than 17 hours.

“At Active.com, we provide online registration and web development services for some of the best and largest events in each sport," said Mike Reilly, Active.com’s director of major account sales and voice of Ironman events worldwide. “Ironman represents the pinnacle of triathlon so we’re very proud to join forces with an organization that is a leading force in the sport."

The benefits of the partnership can be experienced first hand at Subaru Ironman Canada, held this weekend in Penticton, British Columbia. Due to the heavy demand for this event, athletes can only register onsite the day after Sunday’s Ironman via an online process provided by Active.com. If registration for the event doesn’t fill that day through on-site applications, a lottery registration will be available at www.active.com.

Subaru Ironman Canada is also the first stop of Active.com’s HyperActive Tour. The HyperActive Tour – which includes an Active.com team of road warriors and a 1950s-era, vintage Airstream trailer – is traveling across the country to encourage an active lifestyle. The HyperActive team will log more than 12,000 miles, spreading the word about the benefits of online services for participatory sports events, leagues and recreational activities. Participants and event directors at Subaru Ironman Canada can meet the team and stop by the trailer for live demonstrations of Active.com’s services.

Today’s announcement follows Active.com’s July selection as official online registration provider for World Triathlon Corporation’s lottery for the 2001 Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
