Active.com Named Official Provider For USA Cycling

LA JOLLA, Calif. – May 1, 2000 – Active.com, which provides the industry’s largest and most comprehensive Internet site for recreational sports and online event registration, today was named official online registration services provider for USA Cycling (USAC). Through its partnership with USAC, the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, Active.com will deliver web services to a cycling community that represents more than 100,000 USAC members, servicing more than 4,000 sanctioned cycling events and 3,000 clubs.

USAC will be able to offer its members, which include race organizers and licensees, automated services that reduce paperwork, speed processing time and add value. In June, through Active.com’s web services, USAC members will be able to access secure event registration, event permit registration, and membership renewal quickly and easily, via the web. Members will soon be able to access and check their rider profile information or club affiliation prior to membership renewal to ensure licenses are issued correctly based on what they approve. With Active.com’s services, USAC can enhance its communication to its members by sending timely news about permitted events in specific regions or states.

“As a product of the USA Cycling program, I’m a testament to the critical role USA Cycling plays in the ongoing development of the sport," said Tour de France winner and Active.com investor Lance Armstrong.

“I applaud new partners like Active.com for supporting the cycling community through web-enabled services that streamline the licensing, membership and registration process for USA Cycling members and participants."

Active.com, in an effort to help cyclists and coaches communicate better, will also be introducing online tools within the year that will enhance USAC’s relationship with its network of certified coaches.

“We’re excited to support the growth of this sport through web services that keep pace with the needs of the cycling community while bringing cyclists closer to their events and expanding the reach of the sport," said Dave Alberga, president and chief executive officer, Active.com.

USA Cycling Membership Director Warren Conrad agreed. “Active.com shares our respect for the needs of the cycling community and brings the proven expertise in technology and web services that will support us now and in the future. This partnership truly benefits our members, bringing enhancements in service and communication."
