La Jolla, Calif. - September 5, 2000 - Already the established leader in the online event registration market, Active.com has entered into four, new exclusive partnerships in a period of just 45 days.
The company, a leading provider of online registration for participatory sports and recreational activities, announced partnerships with Ironman North America, World Triathlon Corporation, World TeamTennis and USA Bowling in mid-July and August. These announcements have fueled Active.com's leadership position in online event registration while continuing to extend the company¡¦s reach into a diverse range of sports.
"We view these organizations as important chokepoints in the industry," said Dave Alberga, president and chief executive officer, Active.com. "By continuing to establish exclusive relationships with key industry influencers, we are solidifying our leadership position."
Through 2001, Active.com will web-enable major Ironman North America events such as Isuzu Ironman USA Lake Placid, Isuzu Ironman California, Isuzu Ironman Florida and Subaru Ironman Canada - one of the world's most successful Ironman events. On August 28, Active.com played a key role in providing online registration for hundreds of on site athletes signing up for Subaru Ironman Canada 2001. Active.com processed hundreds of online registrations, on site, reducing time spent in line and enhancing Ironman North America's total registration process.
Continuing to demonstrate its strong ties with the triathlon community, Active.com recently partnered with World Triathlon Corporation to provide online registration for the 2001 Ironman Triathlon lottery. The lottery features 200 open spots for the October 6, 2001 Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
Active.com also added tennis and bowling organizations as exclusive partners, emphasizing its strengths across 60 sports. Partnering with World TeamTennis, which was co-founded by Billie Jean King, Active.com will provide tennis players in the DuPont WTT Recreational League the benefits of online registration for leagues, teams and tournaments. League directors will also have access to Active.com's league management tools to automate registration, scheduling, results reporting and communications. Players advancing to the league's national championships in Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 9-12, 2000, will be the first in the organization's history to register online for a World TeamTennis event.
USA Bowling, the national governing body for bowling, is also reaping the benefits of Active.com¡¦s online registration and league management services for its players and coaches. Through the recent partnership, Active.com and USA Bowling will bring online capabilities to America's 60 million bowlers, bringing players of all ages closer to the sport through easy access and enhanced communication. Bowlers participating in the 2000 USA Bowling Championships in Reno, Nevada - an annual sanctioned event that determines members for Team USA - can now register online for this year's event.
