La Jolla, Calif. - March 20, 2000 - ActiveUSA.com, which provides the industry's largest and most comprehensive Internet site for recreational sports, today announced it has changed its name to Active.com.
The name change is a response to multiple international requests the company has received to provide online event registration and Web services to markets in Europe, United Kingdom, Asia, Australia, Africa and New Zealand. The new name, Active.com, also more accurately represents the company's expanding Web-based product line - a line that encompasses more than 60 sports, features a global online database, and targets sports participants worldwide.
"From running and triathlon to horseshoes and figure skating, we encompass everything active," said Dave Alberga, president and chief executive officer, Active.com. "Our new name is easy to remember and better represents the company's mission as we move toward providing Web services to the global sports market."
Currently, Active.com is managing online registration for several international events in areas such as Africa, China, Fiji, Sweden and several provinces in Canada. The company is providing online registration for such international events as June's seven-day Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon in Africa; this year's Stockholm Marathon in Sweden; and October's Beijing International Marathon in China.
"As we expand our customer base internationally and begin to market our services on a global basis, our new name moves us closer to a brand our customers will recognize and identify with worldwide," continued Alberga.
The new name also follows several key company changes, including the launch of Active.com's new Web site and the addition of Alberga, who is leading the company¡¦s management team. The launch of its site represents not only a consolidation of industry leaders but also the culmination of significant integration in the company's management team, its technology and its Web content.
The site's content is richer, with a much wider range of information, tips and services, now targeting more than 60 sports. Site visitors can access a diverse list of sports that includes badminton, basketball, bodybuilding, climbing, disc sports, equestrian, fencing, fishing, figure skating, golf, football, inline skating, ice hockey, horseshoes, kayak/canoe, lacrosse, martial arts, roller hockey, racquetball, rowing, rugby, skiing, snowboarding, soccer, soft/baseball, tennis, volleyball, water polo, wrestling and more.
