DES MOINES, WA - August 26, 2002 - The community of Des Moines can now sign-up for park and recreation activities from home or work, thanks to a new online service started by Des Moines Park & Recreation. Participants can view class information, check availability, register and pay online at www.ci.des-moines.wa.us/recreation.html.
"Online registration is very convenient for our customers. They don't have to drive in or call us to sign-up. Now they can check classes, register and pay right from the Internet," said Bonnie Wilkins, customer service representative, Des Moines Park & Recreation. "We still offer other ways to register since some of our regular customers will always call, but the Internet offers a much easier and faster registration option. We're hoping it will be a hit for many people."
Des Moines Park & Recreation is using ProActive, a recreation management software and Web registration product by La Jolla, Calif.-based The Active Network. The software installs easily and registration and data management capabilities can be accessed quickly. With online enrollment, the staff reduces the workload and paperwork involved in the registration process.
The department is offering a wide range of fall programs for youths and adults. New adult programs include salsa and ballroom dance, belly dancing, tai chi and fung shei. For youths, tiger kids martial arts, pre-ballet, youth ballet and basketball are offered again this year.
Fall registration is open now. To register online, the community can visit the department's Web site at www.ci.des-moines.wa.us/recreation.html and scroll to ?Programs.' There is a nominal convenience fee to use the online registration service. For more information, call 206-870-6527.
