La Jolla, Calif. – January 10, 2000 - The first annual ED2K- Event Director’s Conference was announced today and Dave McGillivray, Technical Director of the Boston Marathon, was named as the conference director.
ED2K, which will be held February 25-27, 2000, in San Diego, California, grew out of Event Director Monthly, known simply as ED, a publication that caters specifically to the needs of event directors in all sports. The newsletter instantly became a valuable resource to all event directors as it contained feature stories on compelling issues that affect the industry while also investigating the practical aspects of event management.
Conference Director, Dave McGillivray brings 20 years of experience to ED2K. He is the founder of DMSE (Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises) Inc., which specializes in creating, marketing and producing mass participatory athletic events throughout the U.S. and abroad. McGillivray has directed and consulted on more than 500 events including, the technical direction of the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, the 1998 Goodwill Games Triathlon (New York City), the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the Triathlon World Championships.
“I am honored to be named conference director for ActiveUSA.com’s ED2K conference," said McGillivray. “We have been working very hard to make ED2K the standard for event director conferences to follow. Our faculty is strong, the issues we cover pertain to events in multiple sports and our location is unbeatable."
“Who better to put on the premier conference for event management than ED?" said Tim Scott, Editor of Event Director Monthly and Senior Vice President of ActiveUSA.com. “ED and ActiveUSA.com have really focused on providing event directors quality tools for event management, database administration and online registration. ED2K is merely an extension of those services. And with the outstanding experience and leadership of someone like Dave McGillivray, ED2K is sure to be a hit. "
The conference will feature several in-depth sessions investigating trends affecting event management today, including: event sponsorship, technology and the Internet, the importance of publicity and the staging of a successful event.
