Leaguelink Wins Exclusive Endorsement From National Recreation and Park Association

La Jolla, Calif. – May 30, 2000 – Active.com, which provides the industry’s largest and most comprehensive Internet site for recreational sports, has won an exclusive endorsement from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) for its LeagueLink product, the company announced today. As the official league administration product of the NRPA, Active.com’s LeagueLink service will provide online registration, scheduling, roster management and tournament administration for NRPA’s 5,100 city, county and state park departments.

“For league administrators trying to manage teams with thousands of participants, the paperwork and administrative tasks can be overwhelming," said Dave Alberga, president and chief executive officer, Active.com. “Through LeagueLink, we provide the NRPA member park and recreation centers an easy, web-based solution that completely automates the tasks associated with running a sports league."

LeagueLink’s powerful Internet-based software, free of charge to both leagues and athletes, greatly reduces league administrators’ workload by automating the repetitive, time-consuming administrative tasks associated with running and managing sports teams and leagues. League administrators, teams and individual participants can create and customize their own homepages to display game schedules and results, player statistics, league announcements and communications.

“We manage multiple teams and leagues year-round for sports such as basketball, softball and volleyball, so it’s great to provide the benefits of online tools for our players," said Frank LaScala, sports director, Livermore Area Recreation & Park District in Livermore, Calif. “LeagueLink allows us to post standings, recent scores, and last minute announcements so our players can access online information quickly and easily for their particular team and league. We’re saving time and money by automating our process while enhancing the playing experience for our participants."

Prior to using LeagueLink, LaScala relied on a pen and paper process, writing down player statistics and standings and sending communications out through regular mail. Managing an estimated 200 teams, the Livermore Area Recreation & Park District can now post player statistics, easily manage scheduling and send timely announcements for rain-out or make-up games. NRPA’s product endorsement follows Active.com’s announcement of its partnership with NRPA and the launch of ActiveParks.org (www.activeparks.org), a premier web resource for both parks and recreation professionals and the communities they serve. The ActiveParks.org project will increase exposure and visibility for parks and recreation and provide the public easy, online access to the latest services and activities.

The NRPA is a national not for profit service organization dedicated to the wise use of leisure, conservation of natural and human resources, and extension of the social, health, cultural, and economic benefits of parks and recreation for all Americans. Boasting a membership of 5,100 city, county and state parks departments, the NRPA works closely with national, state and local recreation and park agencies, corporations and citizen's groups in carrying out its objectives.
