College Undergraduates and Graduate Students Can Earn Active.com Dollars for Tuition
LA JOLLA, CA - February 14, 2005 - To build support for Ironman triathlon and provide immediate aid for triathletes juggling full-time college schedules, Active.com has established the Active 2005 Fellowship Award. Full-time college undergraduates and graduate students who register and complete U.S.-based Ironman North America (IMNA) events in 2005 can qualify for the award. The Active Fellowship will offer a total of $7,500, providing $1,500 to a qualifying male or female triathlete at each event. The first award will be presented on April 9, 2005 at Ironman Arizona Triathlon Tempe.
"We're thrilled to offer this type of support. Providing tuition aid for full-time college students training and competing in Ironman races is one way we can encourage students to keep pursuing the sport," explained Mike Reilly, vice president of The Active Network, parent company of Active.com, and voice of Ironman.
Added Shane Facteau, communications director, Ironman North America, "Active's fellowship award will provide tremendous value for our full-time student athletes. The award will help ease tuition costs, helping athletes manage the stress of education and training commitments."
Winners will be selected based on college workload and need. Awards will be presented at Ironman Arizona Triathlon Tempe (Tempe, Ariz. - April 9); Ironman USA Coeur d'Alene (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - June 26), Ironman USA Lake Placid (Lake Placid, NY - July 24), Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon Madison (Madison, Wis. - Sept. 11) and Ironman Florida Triathlon (Panama City, Fla. - Nov. 5).
