ARLINGTON, VA – October 1, 2001 – The H20 Entertainment Group, organizers of the new Washington DC Marathon, announced today that the group has partnered with Active.com, the industry’s largest Web registration provider for individual and team-based participatory sports and recreation. Active.com will provide online registration and data management services for the inaugural marathon.
“We look at Active.com as a true partner, working with us to reach a goal,” explained John Stanley, president, The H20 Entertainment Group. “Through Active.com’s technology services, we’ll have the ability to communicate quickly and efficiently with our participants, send them timely messages and disseminate information better. Our race has some truly unique characteristics and we want to get the message out to runners throughout the city, nationally and internationally.”
Scheduled for March 24, 2002, the Washington DC Marathon is being billed as a one-of-a-kind opportunity to run alongside history and to discover the people and neighborhoods of Washington, DC. According to Stanley, the marathon will take runners past historic landmarks and neighborhoods the district hasn’t allowed road race passage through in the past. “This race will give you a completely different perspective on the city and the nation,” he added.
"We’re looking forward to supporting this unique, inaugural event. The Washington DC Marathon will be a great opportunity for runners throughout the country to run a beautiful spring Marathon,” added Mike Reilly, vice president of national accounts for Active.com. "The eastern seaboard is a stronghold for running, this combined with the beauty of our nation's capital will make the Washington DC Marathon a fun one to run in 2002.”
