NIRSA Selects Active.com to Launch Web Services For International Recreational Sports League

LA JOLLA, Calif. – March 23, 2000 – Active.com, which provides the industry’s largest and most comprehensive Internet site for recreational sports, today announced it has formed a strategic alliance with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) to provide Internet planning and services to NIRSA and its more than 2,500 member institutions.

A major component of the relationship includes NIRSA’s exclusive endorsement of Active.com’s LeagueLink service, the leading Web-based service for administering recreational sports leagues. Prior to Active.com’s selection, the company’s LeagueLink service underwent extensive beta testing by NIRSA member institutions.

“We’re proud to partner with an organization that has been the industry resource for intramural and recreational sports professionals for more than fifty years," said Jon Belmonte, chief operating officer, Active.com. “Through our alliance with NIRSA, we plan to provide a range of innovative Web services that will result in significant benefits for both NIRSA’s 2,500-plus members and its estimated ten million participants."

The LeagueLink service provides a robust Web solution for many of the repetitive tasks associated with running a league, including roster management, schedule generation and online registration. The service also allows leagues, teams and individuals to create personalized Web pages, promoting information sharing and communication among participants.

This is a tremendous opportunity for NIRSA to advance the potential of our member institutions across the globe," said John T. Meyer, president, NIRSA. “Our alliance with Active.com allows us to deliver a leading-edge product and technology, while transforming league management for the intramural and recreational sports industry."

NIRSA is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the establishment and development of quality intramural/recreational sports and fitness programs. Founded in 1950, the organization’s membership has evolved to form a network of highly-trained professionals in the recreational sports field throughout the United States, Canada and other countries around the world. NIRSA now serves as the leading advocate for excellence in recreational sports programming and services. The organization’s rapidly growing membership is comprised of more than 2,500 professional members.
