WATKINSVILLE, GA - July 22, 2002 - The Oconee community can now register for park and recreation activities from home or work, thanks to a new online service started by Oconee County Parks and Recreation. The community can sign up online at www.oconeecounty.com for more than 40 different fall activities, sports and classes.
"We're seeing online registration as a real convenience for the public," explained Don Oliver, program division administrator, Oconee County Parks and Recreation. "We're a rural community so we're very spread out. Now we can offer an opportunity to get online and enroll without making a special trip out here to sign up. People can sign up at any time and use a credit card, from home or work or anywhere. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this new service and sign up quickly since space is limited."
Oconee County Parks and Recreation is using ProActive, a recreation management software and Web registration product by La Jolla-based The Active Network. The software installs easily and registration and data management capabilities can be accessed quickly. With online enrollment, the staff reduces the workload and paperwork involved in the registration process.
For its fall session, Oconee County Parks and Recreation is offering a wide range of programs for youths and adults. New programs include ceramics for youth and adults, and watercolor painting for adults. The department is also offering its popular football and soccer leagues, providing sign-ups for youth football (ages 7-12) and soccer (ages 4-18).
Fall registration is open through August 16, or until activity spots fill up. To register online, the public can visit the department's Web site at www.oconeecounty.com, and click on the ?Park & Recreation Internet Registration' link. There is a nominal convenience fee to use the service. Walk-in registration is also available. For more information, call 706-769-3965.
