RecWare Debuts "Safari Standard Edition" for Big City Automation on a Small Budget

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jan. 4, 2002 -

RecWare, part of The Active Network, introduced a new recreation management software package today that offers small to mid-size organizations access to the industry's most advanced technology for park and recreation automation, at a low entry price. The new Safari Standard Edition, which starts at $9,995, offers single-site facilities the flagship features of RecWare's Safari software. The package combines Safari's single application design and powerful functionality with popular features such as activity registration, Internet registration, and point of sale, plus affordable upgrade options and discounted maintenance fees.

"Smaller organizations desire the most efficient automation solutions because they grapple with the twin difficulties of a high workload and a small staff. Now, for the first time, Safari Standard Edition brings large city automation power into budget levels that are compatible with smaller organizations," explained Duane Harlan, president of the company's Sacramento-based RecWare division. We've responded to these needs by offering the full functionality and power of our flagship product, priced very affordably, and with a very reasonable upgrade path for future growth."

RecWare's Safari software was originally developed to meet the diverse and complex needs of large organizations, often with multi-site facilities. Safari is best known for its single application architecture, which represents a significant advancement over outdated module-based systems, and its client/server functionality that allows easy support of multiple facilities in different geographic locations. The city of Henderson, Nevada, a nationally-recognized leader in the park and recreation field, uses Safari to automate administration at its 11 park and recreation facilities. Using Safari, the city of Henderson reduced registration management workload and improved efficiency at one of their centers by almost 50 percent. The city of Newport Beach, California, another large, well-known city, also uses Safari to automate operations for its 300+ acres of parks and beaches. Newport Beach recently added Internet registration and hopes to see 50 percent of its customers registering online in the future.

While large, progressive cities such as Henderson and Newport Beach use Safari to automate their entire operations, the new Safari Standard Edition will help cities with smaller budgets enjoy these "big-city" features. Safari Standard Edition includes the following features:

  • Single Application Design - this innovative design allows staff to use the same application for every function, moving between functions without opening and closing programs or swapping between modules.
  • Safari Activity Registration - organizations can manage all activity enrollment needs, with the ability to view and access activity details, create rosters and daily activity reports, and manage instructors and financial data. Using the Multi-Enroller feature, staff can enroll entire families in multiple activities and print the transactions on a single receipt.
  • ProActive Internet Registration - organizations can offer online registration to their communities, implementing an easy, hosted Internet registration solution while avoiding infrastructure costs, hassles, maintenance and investments.
  • Safari Standard Point of Sale (POS) - this fully integrated feature includes on-screen POS buttons and allows staff to accept drop-in fees from one customer, even while enrolling or registering another customer, without closing one window and opening another.

Safari Standard Edition offers affordable upgrade options for adding functions such as facility reservation. In the future, users can easily upgrade to Safari Professional Edition and gain Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle compatibility. As an added bonus, organizations that purchase Safari Standard Edition before April 30, 2002 will receive one additional, free day of staff training, a $1,250 value that expands the initial onsite training visit to three days.
