SAN DIEGO, CA - July 3, 2006 - Honolulu Marathon, one of America's largest marathons, is now using technology services from The Active Network, Inc. for its Dec 10, 2006 marathon. Through a two-year agreement, The Active Network, known for its popular consumer Web site Active.com and its history processing millions of secure online registrations annually for races and events, will provide online registration, data management, Web site and content management services for the marathon and its Race Day Walk, a non competitive 10-K fun walk. Honolulu Marathon has relied on in-house technology services to support its race operations. This is the first time the race will work with an established online registration provider.
"We knew that many of the large races were using services from Active and were happy with the results. Our decision to work with Active gives us the ability to dedicate the majority of our time to our runners, sponsors and race operations," explained Dr. Jim Barahal, president of the Honolulu Marathon. "It has been a challenge for our in-house team to create and manage the technical systems required to support online registration and maintain our Web site. Using Active's services, we won't have to spend time and resources dealing with database or Web server maintenance, software design or system upgrades."
Using Active's data management services, Honolulu Marathon can access, track and manage registrant data from a single system, streamline administration, and communicate more easily with registrants and sponsors. The online registration service offers runners an easy way to register with the added benefit of immediate e-mail confirmation. Active is also re-designing the marathon's Web site to help runners find race information easily and also promote sponsors. Through Active's one-click system for Web site publishing, race staff at any level will be able to manage content for the new site, updating or adding information as often as needed without IT or technical support.
