Wyoming Parks & Recreation Launches Online Registration For Summer

Wyoming, MI - April 22, 2002 - Residents of Wyoming can now enroll for park and recreation activities from home or work using a new online service offered by City of Wyoming Parks & Recreation. Beginning May 3, the community can register online right from the department's Web site for many summer activities with a choice of multiple time sessions.

Serving a community of close to 70,000, the department added the new online service to provide one more convenience for residents. "Doing business on the Internet is the direction society is moving," explained Nancy Parent, administrative secretary, City of Wyoming Parks & Recreation. "Our goal is to offer the best services and options. Offering online registration is another way we can help make the park and recreation experience more enjoyable for our community."

Using ProActive, a recreation management software and Web registration product by La Jolla, Calif.-based The Active Network, the department is making its activities available via the Internet while synchronizing all of its online and offline processes. The software installs easily and registration and data management capabilities can be accessed quickly. With online enrollment, the staff reduces the workload and paperwork involved in the registration process.

For participants, signing up for programs online is fast, fun and convenient. Participants can view program information, check availability, register within minutes from home or work and receive instant e-mail confirmation.

For its summer session, Wyoming Parks & Recreation is offering activities and programs for children, adults and seniors. For children ages 3-5, the department offers "Pre-school fun day," with frisbee tossing, limbo dancing, water balloon launching, and a decoration bicycle/big wheel parade. Pre-schoolers can also join Peewee fun camp with games and arts and crafts. Summer aquatics activities include competitive swim team, aquatic kick boxing, water aerobics, and pre- and post-natal water fitness at Jackson Park pool. There are also youth golf programs, fishing derby, tennis camps, and gymnastics.

Adult and senior leisure and fitness activities offered include yoga and tap & jazz, and computer courses such as "Internet Easy 1-2-3," "Fun with print shop" and "Computers for beginners."

All summer activities can be accessed at the City's Web site (www.ci.wyoming.mi.us), under Parks & Recreation, at the Internet registration link. There is a nominal convenience fee to use the online service. All registration opens May 3 at 8 a.m. For more information, call 616-530-3164.
